The Sports Union looks after a family of 47 sports clubs that represent the university across a wide variety of sport and physical activity. You can try a sport you always wanted to but never had the opportunity to at school, or you can go back to a sport you have not played since primary school.
Our clubs are a sociable lot and they do enjoy an evening out, so it’s a great way to make friends from other years, courses and faculties. They do train regularly as well so they can help you keep healthy and in shape during term time. We have teams and individuals who compete at elite level, but we also have a lot of other members who enjoy playing in the 3rd team just for some quality banter! Oh and you do not want to miss the annual Sports Awards Ball in February . . . a chance to get your kilt/tuxedo/best dress on and celebrate the achievements of the university sports season! It’s the social highlight of any Strath student's calendar.
We hope you enrich your Strathclyde experience by joining the Sports Union and playing for at least one, if not two or more of our clubs. When you join the Sports Union, for a very reasonable £25, you are able to play for any of the 47 sports. Amongst some of the major benefits are; insurance cover while training & playing, you can also access funding to get coaching qualifications or to compete at national, European or World events.
It begs the question, what are you waiting for?!?! You can join at: www.strathstudents.com/joinsportsunion
Don’t worry if you don’t see your sport mentioned, some sports (like Water Polo) are part of bigger clubs such as the Swim club, so check if we do your sport. If we don’t, we would be pleased to hear from you to see if we can get it going! Email our Sports Development Coordinator Iain on firstname.lastname@example.org
