Glasgow Taxis Cup
Over 700 student athletes from Glasgow, Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian Universities took part in the Glasgow Taxis Cup – Scotland’s largest student varsity - on Wednesday with Glasgow narrowly beating Strathclyde to the title. The event was supported by honorary captains Pat Nevin , John Beattie and Lynne Beattie all internationalists in their respective sports. The students competed across 16 sports and 21 events on the day with each event counting towards the overall total; 3 points were awarded for a win, 2 points for 2nd place and 1 point for 3rd place. Glasgow finished with 53 points, Strathclyde 48 points and Caledonian 23 points.
Glasgow Taxis – who have sponsored the event since 2011 – also spoke of their desire to extend the sponsorship agreement which is a huge bonus to the competition and its stature with special thanks given to Stephen Flynn – Vice Chairman of Glasgow Taxis Ltd for his continued involvement.
