On the 29th of June, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Mike Russell MSP, announced plans to change the fees structure for RUK students studying in Scotland, allowing Scottish Universities to set their own fees, up to a maximum of £9,000 per year.
The University of Strathclyde Students' Association is calling for the Principal, to lead the way in Scotland by committing to a no increase in fees for rest of UK (RUK) students.
Opposing the Hike
USSA is currently in discussions with the University on the potential levels of fees for students studying at Strathclyde from the rest of the UK.
USSA's current policy position is that we:
"...have a strong and unwavering committment to the principle of free education..."
and that the University of Strathclyde Students' Association:
"...will actively lobby the University’s Senior Officers to take a stand against student fees, for a free education; against the marketisation of HE, for a fairer system of student support."
Your Executive Officers will be working on your behalf to maintain this policy at all times...but we need your help!

How you can help
We will be working with a lot of University Senior Officers over the coming weeks and months on this issue as well as liaising with and supporting the work of the National Union of Students, Scotland at a national level.
At a local level, we have put together USSA's position in the form of a letter. In order to help us make even more of an impact, we are asking you to sign the letter so we can deliver a whole heap of them to the University to show the depth of feeling from students on this issue.
All you need to do is go to the letter template and sign it! We'll do the rest!
