Support for London Met Students

PAST CAMPAIGN

Confusion for London Metropolitan's international Students.

This week, London Metropolitan University had its licence to sponsor the visas of international students revoked by the UK Boarder Agency. The move means that around 2000 current international students at the institution will now recieve notification that they have 60 days to find another sponsor or face deportation.

In response to the news, NUS UK said that the UK Government treated international students like a political football. NUS have contacted David Cameron and Theresa May to express anger at the way that the decision was made, and to reiterate the potentially catastrophic effects on higher education across the UK.

An NUS survey carried out early in 2012 found that 40% of international students would not recommend the UK as a destination for study. NUS has in recent weeks received increasing communications from students who now feel unwelcome in the UK

Outcomes:

With the support of Student Unions, NUS managed to lobby the Government to ensure that all international students affected were picked up by other HEIs
