Action Groups
Want some action?
Look no further than the Union's Action Groups!!
CACTUS stands for Community Action at the University of Strathclyde. It provides an opportunity for students to be more involved with the local community. From helping out with children’s Christmas parties, to staffing soup kitchens for the homeless it offers students a chance to do something worthwhile.
The Marketing and Communications Team (MCT) conducts surveys and opinion polls on the services offered by the Union to ensure they are meeting student needs. The CMT also works with other groups and activities on marketing strategy to ensure their events are visible, well publicised and well attended.
Members of the Debates Society take part in weekly debates on a range of topics. They have an opportunity to travel to a number of competitions up and down the country and are responsible for organising a national competition.
RAG stands for Raise and Give and is the charities appeal at Strathclyde Union. Volunteers co-ordinate with local, national and international charities to raise money for campaigns. This is done in a variety of ways, from simple things like collection tins on Union bars to organising fundraising nights. The primary way of helping is getting students along to street collections or raids and getting money directly from the public.
The Training Team is our award winning group of students who provide training for other students in the skills employers are looking for when you leave University.
For 14 years now the Union Welcome Team has helped run Freshers Week and welcome new and returning students to Strathclyde and act as ambassadors for the Students’ Union in the process. The aim of the Welcome Team is to support Freshers Week events and generally be there for the members.
