Dominique Ucbas
Now more than ever we need a Student Union that can stand up for the student experience. The campus must be a place where all students feel safe and welcome, and we need to stand up for working students too.
If elected, I will ensure:
BETTER representation of student diversity.
Campaigning for campus to be a welcoming place for students from diverse backgrounds will be my priority. I will hold monthly meetings with the president of each ethnic, liberation, faith and charitable society to pinpoint the main concerns and address them.
FASTER response to racism, homophobia and sexual harassment.
More must be done to oppose discrimination and prejudice on campus. My experience in grassroots campaigning means I can effectively promote safer spaces and the zero tolerance policy across campus.
STRONGER support for working students.
Too many students drop out because of excessive pressures at work. I will set up forums where students will be made aware of their rights at work and can raise any concerns or problems openly about their work-study balance.
We are standing together because we have a collective vision of a more democratic, campaigning student union. If you share our vision VOTE FOR BETTER, FASTER, STRONGER.
Re-Open Nominations (RON)
Who is RON?
RON is a democratic mechanism to allow voters to choose not to elect any of the candidates in the election. If RON wins the election, then nominations will re-open and this will give people a 2nd chance to stand for the position.
Why should you vote for RON?
You should vote RON if you feel the other candidates are not up to the job.
However if you think that only one candidate is worth your vote, then vote RON as your second choice. If there are two candidates that are worth your vote then vote RON for the third choice, and so on.
What happens if RON wins?
If RON wins the election, nominations will be re-opened for that particular position. New candidates will have the opportunity to run for the position and those that ran previously will be able to run again.
