Congress 2010 Speakers

Philip WhytePhilip Whyte - President of the University of Strathclyde Students' Association

Philip has been involved in academic representation for the past five years at the University of Strathclyde. He has recently been re-elected to represent Strathclyde students for another year, making him the first two-term President in the Association's history. Philip has been involved with the Enhancement Themes in recent years and is currently one of two student members of the steering committee for the current Enhancement Theme - Graduates For The 21st Century.

 

Prof. Jim McDonaldProf. Jim McDonald - Principal & Vice Chancellor

Prof. McDonald has been Principal of the University of Strathclyde for just over a year. Before that, he was Deputy Principal focussing on Research Enhancement & Business Development. A graduate of Strathclyde at BSc, MSc and PhD level, Professor McDonald returned to the University in 1984 after eight years in industry and held several academic positions in the department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering.

 

Aaron PorterAaron Porter - Vice President Higher Education, National Union of Students, UK

Aaron is currently coming to the end of his second term in office as the first ever NUS Vice President Higher Education. Prior to holding this post, he was Academic Affairs Officer at the University of Leicester Students' Union. Aaron is also a non-executive board director for the Office of the Independent Adjudicator and the European Students' Union, and a member of the Academic Council of the Higher Education Academy, the National Student Survey Steering Group and the Burgess Implementation Steering Group.

 

Prof. Ray LandProf. Ray Land - Director of the Centre for Academic Practice and Learning Enhancement (CAPLE)

Prof. Land is currently Professor of Higher Education and Director of the Centre for Academic Practice and Learning Enhancement (CAPLE) at the University of Strathclyde. He is also a member and founding accreditor of the Higher Education Academy. Prof. Land has been involved with the Enhancement Themes on behalf of the University of Strathclyde and is a member of the steering committee for the current Enhancement Theme - Graduates For The 21st Century.


Prof. Philip WinnProf. Philip Winn - Deputy Principal Strategy

Prof. Winn is currently Deputy Principal for Strategy at the University of Strathclyde. He recently joined the institution from the University of St. Andrews, where he held the position of Vice Principal Learning & Teaching. At Strathclyde, Prof. Winn works closely with academic leaders, the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer to ensure corporate planning process and resources are aligned with strategic objectives. He is also the Chair of the steering committee for the current Enhancement Theme - Graduates For The 21st Century.
