We are deeply concerned to read the Home Affairs Select Committee report on anti-Semitism, highlighting the sharp increase in anti- Semitic incidents across the UK. We acknowledge the presence of anti-Semitism throughout society, including amongst students and strive to fight it in all its forms.

Statement on the UK Government immigration proposals

Since the Conservative Party conference, the UK government has made clear its intention to reduce immigration, outlining measures that will negatively affect both current students and graduates of Strathclyde. We support all international students as they are attacked by an increasingly xenophobic government.

The proposals include1 requiring companies to list the proportion of foreign workers, introducing a “controlling migration fund” and restricting some universities from recruiting international students.

Statement Regarding Removal of Student Officer

Following a number of complaints, concerns raised by faith
groups, and media coverage into the involvement of the Vice President Volunteering
and Development of University of Strathclyde Students’ Association in an
anti-Semitic incident on campus, the Students’ Association complaints procedure
was invoked.  The finding of the
subsequent hearing was that the officer had brought the Union into disrepute
and that they were, as a result permanently incapacitated from holding elected
