Kyle Henry - VPVD

Calling all students. My name is Kyle Henry and I am the Vice President Volunteering Development.

Freshers was maybe the first time some of you met me, running around helping with the rest of the Welcome Team adorned with pink tshirts. From Hot Dog eating championships, to Hampden tours, to Democracy Day, to Equality festival there was something for everyone. The Clubs / Socs fair on Wednesday was bustling with a lot of people so hopefully you all got the chance to sign up to some new and exciting societies. A personal highlight was Vengaboys.

Emergency Housing Support Fund established at Strathclyde

The University of Strathclyde Students’ Association (USSA) have established an Emergency Housing Support Fund with the University of Strathclyde. The annually recurring fund of £10,000 will be available to students at the University from the summer.

The University of Strathclyde Students' Association (USSA) is concerned at the detention and planned deportation of a City of Glasgow College student, and joins the National Union of Students Scotland in calls to halt these proposals and to urgently review these processes.

Strathclyde Students' Union signs up to Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions for Human Rights in Palestine

My SYP Story: Scottish Youth Parliament election deadlines this Friday!

My time with the Scottish Youth Parliament is almost coming to an end, I still have more than 6 months left in my post as Glasgow Kelvin MSYP, but this Friday nominations will close to choose my successor and youth reps from across Scotland!

 

It has been an honour and a privilege to be part of an organisation that is focused on making change for young people. But I have had my chance to be part of it, make change, and get involved… plus my youth credentials are starting to leave me!

Better Jobs and More Opportunities

During the elections, one of the big areas I said I wanted to work on was securing better support and more opportunities for students. This week we took our first steps in this work by creating living-wage interns and abolishing the use of Zero-Hours Contracts within the Union.
