Had too much fun during Freshers' Week? Feel like you want to kick start your academic year with a splurge of healthiness? Want to try something new and fun and free? Then you've come to the right place!!
Welcome to USSA's first ever Freshers' Detox Week! From the 19th September me and my Sports Union Executive are running events and promotions which to help you recharge after Freshers' Week, give you a chance to try something new and give your body and mind a boost to start the year. Freshers' Detox is the first of a series of student wellbeing focussed campaigns and events that I will be running throughout the year as part of my Healthy Body Healthy Mind strategy (HBHM). I will be running other events promoting physical, mental and emotional health all year so look out for more campaigns coming your way. If you'd like to be involved in Strathclyde HBHM get in touch with me and I'll let you know what is going on.
All the events are free but for the Hula Hoop Classes and Laughter Yoga you need to sign up as we have had to limit the numbers simply so you have enough space. You're welcome to come along on the day and see if there are spaces left but you can also sign up online below.
Freshers' Detox events includes:
Monday 19th - Friday 23rd
Student volunteers and staff will be out on campus to have a chat and ask you complete our Student Lifestyle Survey so that we can find out a little bit more about what current Strathlclyders' attitudes and habits are. The survey is short and snappy and looks at eating, exercise, smoking and mental health! The results will be used to give us insight into what kinds of work, campaigns and events we should focus on for the rest of the year.
Tuesday 20th - 10am-3pm
Come meet our newly formed Student Minds group who will be doing a fun test to establish how stressed you are in the first week of term! They will also be handing out information about mental health, raising awareness and letting you know where you can get support. Pop along to the foyer and say hello!
Thursday 22nd - 10am-3pm
The foyer will be filled with all things Healthy Body Healhty Mind! The Sports Union are running a smoothie bike stand where you can peddle yourself a fruit smoothie. The Advice Hub will be handing out recipes and giving you the chance to win a wok and other kitchen goodies. Love Food Hate Waste will also be there with tips on how to get the most out of your healthy food. A little bit of something for everyone!
