The Lapland Challenge
Our Healthy Body Healthy Mind campaign (HBHM) isn't just for students we also run campaigns for the staff and this semester will be no different!
USSA staff have decided to take part in a challenge to cover the miles between Glasgow and Lapland! The Lapland Challenge will see staff cover the 2348 miles to Lapland in time for Christmas - ready to help Santa and the eleves! This is a 13 week challenge and everyone will just do the miles they want to or are able to do, there is no pressure or targets, just a lovely big team effort.
If staff or a student officer does an activity that they can easily measure in miles e.g. cycling, running or walking that that’s easy to calculate and add! For example a 5 mile run gives you 5 miles to add!
If they do an activity that isn’t easy to measure in miles e.g. swimming, exercise classes or team sports then they can work it out using our special USSA HBHM Staff Challenge calculation method:
- An easy class, the same effort as walking equates to 3 miles per hour
- A medium effort hour of activity, similar to jogging pace gives them 6 miles an hour
- If they've had a really tough session that feels like running then they get 8 miles per hour of activity.
Everyday exercise & activity staff already do can count towards to challenge, e.g. walking or cycling to work but they can also add new activities or increase their current activity to boost the miles they are adding!
Staff will be adding their efforts to our big Lapland Challenge map on Tuesday's at our weekly flash meetings so if you're on level 7 you can come and see the progress we're all making!
Wish them luck and cheer them on if you see them at the gym!
