Commonwealth Games

Commonwealth Games 2014 Glasgow225 School Pupils on Campus! Strathclyde Needs You!

  • Get involved in semester 2 to enhance employability skills
  • Once in a generation chance to be part of 2014 Commonwealth Games initiatives

If you’ve resolved to make a positive addition to your CV in 2012 – then we have the opportunity for you - and it’s taking place right here at Strathclyde!

Glasgow 2014, Sportscotland and Youth Sport Trust are running an exciting programme to harness the enthusiasm of young Scots in the build-up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. This opportunity is a must for anyone interested in sports, education, event management or community work - or for those of you who simply want to add something outstanding to your CV.

Lead 2014 invites every secondary school in Scotland to take part in a day-long conference at universities across the country - and you’ll be proud to hear that following the great success of last year’s event – which accommodated 100 school pupils – Strathclyde was the first choice for most schools in 2012. In response, we’ve invited 225 pupils this year, but to make this event an even greater success we need your help!

The programme sees university students lead workshops on event management to inspire pupils to organise and deliver Commonwealth Games themed sports festivals within their own school community. Linked to existing leadership work in schools, Lead 2014 encourages Scottish support for the Games, giving young people a unique opportunity to develop their leadership skills, while spending time on a university campus.

You’ll attend 2 training sessions – Sun 5th February and Sun 12th February -  and of course the day itself, Fri 9th March and in exchange for 3 short days of your time, you’ll be able to name some fantastic organisations on your CV, and have the opportunity to make yourself known to staff who are using this as an opportunity to scout talented volunteers for the upcoming Games.

Email Community Engagement Coordinator Sarah McKee on sarah.mckee@strath.ac.uk as soon as possible. – And hurry – these places were snapped up fast last year!
