Volunteering

Volunteering for the Welfare services

Volunteering involves you giving your time towards an activity or cause which you care about and enjoy taking part in. Your Union depends on student volunteers for it to function, considering half of the Student executive are full time students and volunteers! Being a welfare volunteer is a brilliant way to enhance the experience of your fellow students through university, to help other people and learn some things about yourself.

ASK volunteers

The ASK advice and support centre (see support section) relies on its volunteers to come up with and run campaigns and stalls for students throughout the year. ASK volunteers help inform students about options and support services available to them on campus, and provide a lot of help for the ASK staff.  ASK volunteering can give you:

-understanding of how to be supportive of others

- an insight to the sort of problems which students face (and therefore may lead you to campaign for better resources!)

- new social networks

- an invite to the STAR awards ceremony at the end of the year

If you would like to get involved in ASK volunteering please contact ussa.ask@strath.ac.uk

Nightline volunteers

Nightline volunteering is an extremely rewarding experience. Nightline is a listening and support service which is non-judgmental, confidential, anonymous, supportive and committed, and is run by student volunteers (see service section). Nightliners receive full training which equips them with vital listening, empathetic and confidentiality skills, allowing people to apply support skills to their own lives and their friends/family. Nightline volunteers:

-meet a new network of friends including Caledonian University students

-can get engaged in social events

-build up skills for CV

-learn a lot of skills which are relevant to most areas of life

If you want to volunteer for Nightline contact the Vice President Services at ussa.vps@theunion.strath.ac.uk
