Want to be part of Welcome Team 2012?
The USSA Welcome Team is a lively friendly group of students who help make Freshers' Week fantastic! By acting as ambassadors for the Students’ Association they ensure new and returning students to Strathclyde are informed and supported.
What do Welcome Team volunteers do?
Tasks are varied and may include:
- assisting and helping students find and move into halls
- leading campus, building and city tours
- collating and distributing goody bags and promo information
- dealing with varying general student queries
- encouraging students to attend events and and get involved
- setting up fairs and promoting activities through info stalls and welcome events
What experience is needed and what commitment is expected?
No experience is necessary, applications are invited from enthusiastic personable students willing and able to help new students. The shifts run throughout the week beginning the weekend prior to Freshers Week and ending on the following weekend. Volunteers are expected to attend at least one shift each day and contribute at least three full days over the week.
What resources and support is available?
Full training is given to equip volunteers with the necessary skills to carry out tasks. Volunteers have the support of the Student Activities Development Co-ordinator and the Vice President Activities & Development, although a large proportion of support is provided by other team members.
What will volunteers get out of it?
Mainly you get out what you put in! There are many benefits besides the satisfaction of a successful Freshers Week, volunteers have the opportunity to have fun and gain new skills including: teamwork, innovation, communication and leadership. Due to the fast pace of tasks during the week, volunteers receive free breakfast and lunch whilst on duty and are invited to the social event at the end of the Week, volunteers are also offered free access to Freshers Week activities.
How do I join and where can I find out more?
Places are limited as numbers of members are rising each year. Please state your initial interest by emailing the Student Activities Development Co-ordinator Carole
