What's it all about?
This year's Annual National Conference of the National Union of Students (NUS) will be held in Sheffield from the 24th to the 26th of April 2012.
Every affiliated Students' Association, Union and Guild across the UK have the opportunity to send a certain amount of delegates along to represent their specific institution, depending on how many students they have in the membership.
The University of Strathclyde Students' Association has an entitlement of 6 students for this year's Conference.
The event itself will be an opportunity to debate policy, elect new Executive members and find out more about the campaigns being undertaken by the national organisation to benefit students throughout the UK.
The definitive information about this year's National Conference is available at www.nusconnect.org.uk
How can I become a delegate for Strathclyde?
Every Ordinary Member of the Students' Association (see the Constitution for more information - pg 3 & 4) is eligible to stand for election for the Strathclyde Delegation. You will need to download and complete a nomination form (below) which will require nominations from 20 other Strathclyde students (you cannot nominate yourself!).
Once you have completed it, you will need to return it along with the following:
- A manifesto statement of not more than 200 words
- This is basically a list of things that you stand for, that you want to change or that you want to achieve if you were to be elected.
- This is a really important part of your candidacy as it differentiates you from other candidates, so spend time on it, talk to other students and get it right!
- This is your official statement to the electorate, so you can detail your experience, skills, goals or anything else you think will convince people to vote for you.
- A Manifesto Poster
- Your main form of publicity will be your printed manifesto poster
- This can be as simple or elaborate as you like and can be as brief or long-winded as you see fit – it’s up to you!
- You can, of course, use the same text as your manifesto text
- You will need to include the following mandatory text somewhere on the poster:
- “Vote at http://pegasus.strath.ac.uk from Monday 19th March 9:00am – Tuesday 20th March 5:00pm”
- A digital photo of you which
- clearly shows your face
- is of good quality
- is in JPEG (.jpeg) or PNG (.png) format
All of these documents (nomination form, manifesto statement, manifesto poster and photo) must be returned to Al Wilson, Engagement & Support Manager in the following ways:
