If you have a problem with a lecturer or a tutor you have several options.
If the problem is of a personal nature, for example you feel that you have been unfairly marked, the first course of action you should take should be to speak directly to the lecturer or tutor. It is unusual to ask a tutor to justify the marks given but if you feel you have grounds then you may outline them to the tutor in question. If you feel that they have not responded satisfactorily, or that you are uncomfortable with approaching them, then you should approach the Head of Department and tell them your concerns.
If the problem is one that several or all students are having, then the best option there is to speak to your course rep who sits on the staff student committee. You could also speak to your SRC representative if you feel that the matter is serious. They can then discuss the problem through the proper channels.
If you feel that a lecturer or tutor has breached the equal opportunities or harassment policies then you can make an official complaint against them. If you are comfortable doing so, you can approach the person in question. If you do not wish to do this, speak to the Equal Opportunities Officer for the University. Alternatively if you wish to discuss the matter informally beforehand you may do so with the Equal Opportunities Officer, David McDonald or the Vice President Advice and Support, Ursula Tereba within the Students' Association or with one of the Student Advisers in Ask Alison Urquhart & Nicola Summers.
