Postgraduate Representation

Student Representative Council
The council is made up of students from across the different faculties at Strathclyde. Any student can become a member. Here, motions are passed that affect student life within the Union. More widely, the Council directs how the Union represents student views to the University.  Thus, if there is something you want changed, joining the Council is an excellent way to facilitate this. Time commitments are minimal – seven meetings across the academic year. It even looks good on a CV! Joining the council is a straight forward process; email me at postgraduateofficer@theunion.strath.ac.uk for details.

A number of motions have been passed that affect Postgrads directly:

  • Mediation for PhD students with their supervisors
  • Better library opening hours

The more active Postgrad student representatives that are on the Council, the more Postgrad life can be changed for the better. So, go on, join the council and help make Postgrad life better!

Postgraduate Officer
This is an elected non-sabbatical position that sits on the Student Executive, the 12 highest officers within the Union, that deal with its day to day running. The Student Executive also sit on various committees within the university, representing students. It represents an excellent platform for facilitating changes in the University for Postgrads. While certainly requiring a reasonable time commitment, it can be very rewarding and demonstrates a range of skills for your CV, that often Postgrads will be lacking. Well worth running for.

Elections for Executive positions will be held on February 27th and 28th with nominations closing on Wednesday 13th February. I am very happy to give you details about how to run and my experiences from it. Email me at postgraduateofficer@theunion.strath.ac.uk for details.
