Gurjit is a graduate from the Department of Government. He has been involved in the Union since his first year through Rag, SRC and Training Team. Gurjit has enjoyed many nights socialising in the Union and has made many friends. This has made his time at University very enjoyable and memorable, and he's not giving up on that now! As President of the Students Association, he hopes to encourage all students to take part in the many opportunities that are on offer. Deputy President - Kevin Ward Kevin is 22 years old and has just completed an engineering degree. In the last year, Kevin has served as Union Chair which involved helping run and chairing the Students' Representative Council. Additionally, Kevin has been a committee member of the Debates Society for the last two years and has represented the Association in competitions across the UK and Ireland. He is looking forward to increasing and maintaining levels of student involvement and representation by ensuring their Union works for them. Kevin is based on Level 10 of the building. Vice President Student Development - Jamie Forsyth Jamie is 21 and has just finished a Biochemistry and Psychology degree. Last year he was convenor of the students charity appeal and this year he is looking forward to increasing student involvement and maintaining and improving the existing opportunities for participation in student groups as vice president student development. Vice President Support and Campaigns- Ursula Tereba A recent graduate of the Strathclyde Business School with Honours in Marketing, whose adventure with the Union began as an exchange student! Yes, she loved it so much she re-applied to become a full-time 'Strathclyder' and got involved with the Union as a volunteer for the Student Marketing Team as well as the Welcome Team and Campus Student Assistant. In the past year she was an active member of the Marketing Support Team at the Union and is planning to use all that experience to more effectively target the student population with well-being campaigns, as well as address all current issues important for students. As a member of the Exec she wants to ensure that all welfare services are visible and accessible to all students and to promote more active student involvement in the life of the Association Main Responsibilities: Co-ordinates the campaigning work of the Association, Organises welfare, advice and support services, Co-ordinates Ask4 and Nightline volunteers. Vice President Operational and Commercial Services - Lawrence West Lawrence, 22, has just graduated with a degree in Marketing. Over the past two years he has been heavily involved in the Union through the Freshers Welcome Team, the Student Marketing Team and as Men's Hockey Captain and Social Convenor. During her four years at Strathclyde she has been a highly involved player on the mighty Strathclyde Netball Team and for the last two years a very active member of the Sports Union Executive. She is very excited about taking on the responsibility of Sports President and wants to help you make sport a part of your Strathclyde experience, so visit her in the Sports Union on level 7 of the Union. Clubs and Societies Convenor - Judith Murray Judith, 18, is a second year Mathematics student who has been involved in the Union for the past two years mainly through her role as Clubs and Societies Treasurer. As Women's Group Convenor, Judith participated in campaigns on women's issues and is also the founder of SUGS (Strathclyde University Guides & Scouts). Main Responsibilities: Works with student representatives in both Union and University, Organises training events for representatives, Takes a lead role in education campaigns. Student Media and Marketing Officer - Philip Wilson Philip is 21 years old and is a fourth year marketing student. Over the two years Philip has been involved in the Student Marketing Team, one of which he served as Convenor. He has also served as a member of the Student Representative Council (SRC) for a year and is very much looking forward to his involvement with SRC this year. Philip aims to make this year the most successful year for the Student Association. Having two of the media groups win Best Group in the annual STAR Awards for student volunteering in the past two years, he is keen to see this success continue and is committed to developing the Student Marketing Team, Telegraph, Radio station, Film and TV, making as many opportunities available to all students. Last year David became involved in the Students' Union, sitting on SRC and volunteering with the Ask4 service helping students with a range of issues. David plans to increase membership of all liberation groups and assist them in campaigning throughout next year helping them raise awareness of Equal Opportunities issues within the University. Jordanhill Officer - Laura Fraser Laura is 20 years old and is currently in her third year of Primary Teaching at Jordanhill. Laura has been a representative for fellow students on her course in previous years and is excited about continuing to represent students this coming year. Laura aims to ensure that Jordanhill students feel connected with the main campus but also that the services at Jordanhill continue while it remains to be a place of study. Postgraduate Officer - Adam Wagner Adam is a PhD student in his third year studying Statistics. In his capacity as Postgraduate Officer, Adam works to represent Postgrads at various levels within the university. He helps organise social events for Postgrads as well - keep your eye out for notices about these. If you have suggestions for social events, or other Postgrad issues, then drop Adam an email.
