Orchestra

Symphony Orchestra

The Orchestra is open to all students.  Whether you're a string, woodwind, brass or percussion player, we'd love to hear from you!

If you'd like to play, but don't have your own instrument, get in touch with us as the Uni has a few instruments available for students to borrow.

Our weekly rehearsals are on Tuesdays, 5 - 7pm, when we play through orchestral pieces and 'give-it-a-go' sessions under the direction of our conductor Gerry Doherty.  Musical styles vary from Baroque and other chamber orchestral works to full blown symphonic film scores and classical works.

Don't let the thought of playing through a symphony put you off!!  Members are given helpful advice and enouragement by specialist tutors who come along week by week, so that each player is supported and reassured.

The Orchestra is run by the Members for the Members, so if you have any requests or ideas which would improve the experience of being with like-minded musicians, we'd be happy to hear them!

For more information, contact Alasdair Wood, Orchestra President alasdair.wood@strath.ac.uk
