Petition to Abolish Zero-Hour Contracts

Abolish Zero-Hour Contracts

USSA takes the rights of its employees very seriously, and, as a not for profit organisation, we cannot justifiably continue the practice of zero-hour contracts. As such the Association has recently passed a motion to discontinue employing people on zero-hour contracts, and changed all such existing contracts to provide flexible but guaranteed minimum hours. We now want to campaign to end zero-hour contracts among University staff, thus ensuring that the University of Strathclyde continues to lead in employment security and staff excellence.

Sign our petition if you want USSA to campaign on this issue. If you want to read more on the issue of zero-hours contracts, click here.

We, the undersigned, urge the university, Glasgow City Council, and the Scottish Government to actively work against the practice of Zero Hours Contracts in their associated services.

Specifically, we want to see:

  • The abolition of the practice of Zero Hours Contracts at the University of Strathclyde and across Glasgow City Council services.

  • The University and the City Council to only use contracted staff which are not subjected to Zero Hours Contracts.

  • For the Scottish Government to support the abolition of Zero Hours Contracts across the public sector.

Signatures will be presented to representatives of the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow City Council, and the Scottish Government.
